Care with cleaning, as well as proper nutrition, are the factors that most affect the baby’s well-being. This leads parents to be always alert to know and apply tips that facilitate tasks that are sometimes demanding, such as bathing in a safe way.

Although the pediatrician usually provides an extensive list of information about the baby’s hygiene and the items to be used, in practice it is possible to feel a little insecure due to the fragility that the child has in the first months of life.

It is also very normal to be afraid that babies will stay in the bathtub when they are more agile and restless. That’s why we want to simplify hygiene tasks a bit by offering a list of items that are regularly used, safe and easy to use.

1. Bathtub

It is the most suitable item for bathing newborns and babies up to six or eight months old.

It is placed inside the normal bathtub or on the top platform of the changing table and in it you can place the baby in a comfortable position, which allows you to clean his body in a safe way without risking him to swallow water or hurt himself when sliding.

2. Bath chair

The bath chair is an accessory similar to bathtubs, but it is recommended for babies over eight months old. These car seats are also placed inside the adult bathtub, but because they have holes for the legs, they provide more freedom than the plastic bathtub, since at this stage the baby is no longer so fragile.

3. Bath mat

The bath mat is placed in the bathtub to prevent the child from slipping. It can also be placed under the car seat mentioned above to reinforce its stability. If you don’t have one, you can replace it with towels.

4. Mugs to rinse

They are very necessary to ensure the child’s cleanliness; especially to remove soap or shampoo residues from areas such as the head and face. Opt for models that have a non-slip handle to avoid accidents when emptying the liquid and, for that same reason, options are not made of glass.

5.  Towels to dry the skin

It is essential to have a towel for the baby’s exclusive use. It should be made of hypoallergenic fabric and should be washed at least every two uses with a special baby soap.

General recommendations

Remember that, among the tips for washing baby’s clothes, the indications are: use powdered soap for babies, avoid fabric softeners and wash separately and gently all parts. This way, it is possible to guarantee that babies will not have any changes in their skin due to contact with the chemical products in the soap.

Towels to dry the skin

As already mentioned, the child’s hygiene during the first days of life should not include soap. It is recommended to use only water. In the case of inclusion of skin cleansing products, they should be used in small quantities and in a pH 4 gel.

Also, it is not recommended to bathe the baby more than twice a week. Ideally, do this for short periods of time, taking special care of the umbilical cord. Finally, also pay close attention to drying your skin.
