To teach children to care for the environment, working creativity, entertain them without using the technology or even save money, DIY toys (acronym for do it yourself” , “do it yourself”) are an excellent option. We’ll give you some ideas in this article.

DIY toys: fun guaranteed

Would you like your children to play with things made for them? Would you like to teach them a little about recycling or caring for the environment? Do you think it’s absurd to spend so much money on toys that last so little?

If you answered yes to these questions, DIY toys are ideal for you. In addition to all of the above, and to top it off, they are also an excellent option to spend a fun afternoon with the family, leaving screens and technology aside.

We will give you some options:

1. Castles and rockets with paper tubes

The kitchen rolls have a cardboard tube inside them, which, in most cases, goes to waste. If you collect some – also the toilet paper ones – you can make DIY toys for boys and girls.

For example,  to make a fairy tale castle, you can use three or four tubes and cut them into different sizes.

You should make the roofs with a cardboard or paper cone and then glue. Paint them as if they were brick or concrete walls.

Meanwhile,  for rockets, you’ll need a cardboard tube, a paper cone, and a cardboard base  to hold it. You can paint it however you like or paste colored paper to decorate it.

2. Puppets and puppets

When our children are young, they have a lot of fun with puppet shows. What if they themselves were responsible for putting together the characters in the story and then presenting them to the whole family?

To make puppets, we can use old gloves or socks, to which we will add eyes and hair with cardboard and wool, respectively. If you want to make a puppet, you will need string, a stick or stick, cardboard and glue.

The procedure is relatively simple:  make the shape or character you like and don’t forget to thread your arms and legs. At the other end, connect the wand. That way, when you move the strings, the puppet will come to life.

3. Geometric shapes and colors

Depending on the children’s age,  we can teach them colors, numbers, letters and even geometric shapes with wonderful DIY toys. And we don’t need a lot of materials for that.

For example,  you can make shapes with thick cardboard and then paint cards with the same color and shape. Thus, the child will have to identify each pair and can learn by playing.

4. Fishing game

With a little imagination and creativity, we can make lots of games for our kids. For example, one of fishing with cloth fish.

To do this, first form the fish with colored fabrics, their shape is very simple. Then,  a wool passes through the edge and leaves a kind of ‘beam’, which would be the fish’s mouth.

For the rod, you need a toothpick, some string and, at the end, a hook made with a clip or similar.

Place the fish on the ground and the child, standing or sitting in a chair,  should catch them by hooking the clip to the wool loop. She can spend hours having fun!

Benefits

DIY toys are suitable for any age, it’s just a matter of seeing what we have at home and letting our imaginations fly.

We recommend that you set aside a box or a bag to put the materials that can save a rainy day, when nothing seems to work.

But what to keep? Plastic bottles, lids, cardboard, wire, boxes, colored paper, buttons…  everything that would be wasted but can be recycled.

Your kids will love doing something different and you can help them make the toys and then enjoy them as a family.

Without a doubt, DIY toys are a great idea to create a world full of adventures. At the same time, you can offer your kids the opportunity to create and have fun with something they’ve made themselves.

If you are still very young, find the right time to make your toys and distribute them for no special reason, besides being a mother who wants your children to have a wonderful time.
